Stepping Stone Sound

Stepping Stone Sound found its beginnings in 2004 when producer and recording engineer Aaron Meier left Atlanta after honing his skills working alongside Grammy-winning artists, world-class recording engineers and multi-platinum producers.

Though he enjoyed working with and learning from the industry's elite, Aaron understood that the landscape of the music industry was quickly changing, focusing more on the independent artist as major labels lost their stranglehold on the marketplace and began to consolidate in an attempt to stop the bleeding. He knew that there was a wealth of grassroots artists out there who would lead the way into the new millenium, many of whom would need a helping hand in getting their careers off the ground. And so, he set out with the vision of creating a company that would cater to these independent artists by offering the services and support they needed at price that was within their reach. 

Currently in its sixth year of business, Stepping Stone Sound has successfully established itself as a leader in the production studio market, garnering praise from some of the area’s most respected artists and attracting clients from as far away as Nashville and New York. But even as we continue to achieve growth and success, we have never forgotten the principles upon which the company was founded; professionalism, quality and affordability. And guided by this philosophy, the future for Stepping Stone Sound continues to be bright as we work to help pave the way for the artists of tomorrow.

About The Owner

Aaron Meier has been actively involved in music for his entire life. He started with the piano at age 6, going on to place highly in several state and national competitions. He continued his pursuit of music throughout his childhood, playing trumpet and French horn in his high school band, and receiving his first guitar as a gift from his parents at the age of 16. Throughout his twenties, Aaron played guitar in several Atlanta and Charlotte area bands and became a very active songwriter in the pop, rock and country genres. 

His love affair with recording began in his teens, when he bought his first four track recorder as a way to get his ideas down, and his passion for the art of recording continued to flourish. He soon became a regular fixture at local Sonshyne Studios, a small production facility owned by his uncle where he gained experience working on projects in a wide range of styles, primarily country and gospel/religious. In 2000, Aaron relocated to Atlanta, GA, where he spent time studying production and composition under former Paul Di’Anno guitarist Alf Batz. In April of 2002, he landed an internship at Silent Sound Studios, a prestigious Atlanta facility whose client list is a virtual who’s who of the music industry, including Elton John, Train, Bruce Springsteen, Ludacris, T.I., Whitney Houston, Scott Storch, TLC and many, many more. After spending nearly two years there under the tutelage of master engineer Thomas “T.K.” Kidd, Aaron relocated to the Charlotte, NC area and opened his own recording and production facility, Stepping Stone Sound. His talents as a musician, songwriter, engineer and producer have been praised by clients and colleagues alike, and he continues to be a rising star in the industry. 

Currently, Aaron is a member of both the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and Nashville Songwriters Association International, and is affiliated with BMI. He is also working towards a Masters Certificate in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music.
